General Instructions and Advice

Please use the following steps to search for building control records:

  1. If you know the reference number (or part of it), enter it below. Alternatively you can use any of the fields below to narrow the search down. Please note that at least one field must be completed
  2. Select the 'Search' button to search for planning applications
  3. For specific help on searching, click on the appropriate link below

Please note pre 1996 records are not held electronically, but some paper records are available for inspection in the reception area of the Council’s Dock Office building. No records are held for longer than 16 years after the completion of the development.

Alternatively, you can search on part of the number (e.g. 0001 will display results for “2007/0001/BR” and all other years with such a number.
Location
tooltip When searching for an address you may need to include punctuation (commas) in the address e.g. High Street, Barry. Results may vary based on punctuation.

You do not need to enter the full address, a search may run on just part of the address e.g. “Rose Cottage” Be aware that when searching on part of an address, this may pick up unrelated applications which are not relevant to your search.

Enter one or more words to find applications for specific types of development (e.g. loft conversion). Note that this search is wholly dependent upon the description used by the applicant, and is therefore unlikely to provide comprehensive results.
