According to the Transport Assessment, over two thirds of employed Sully residents drive to work. The proposal would place 190 new households on Swanbridge Road, which continues directly into Sully Road in the direction of Cardiff; this would greatly compound pre-existing traffic problems on these roads. Swanbridge Road and Sully Road are very narrow. It is impossible, along many parts of these roads, for two vehicles to pass each other. One vehicle must pull over and stop in - or even reverse some distance into - a widening in the road in order to allow the other vehicle to pass. This is particularly tricky when there is more than one vehicle on each side. The development would result in severe traffic congestion and delays for residents; and would raise the risk of collisions. There are homes and schools that open directly onto Sully Road. Pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrians, who share the road, are at particular risk due to lack of visibility or space for overtaking safely.
