The basis for additional housing in the Vale and in particular St Athan is flawed. The figures presume significant employment from the aerospace park, which is now redundant. There is no overriding need for this development, which uses virgin farming land. There are more appropriate sites in and around St Athan, which provide better main road and school access, which will reduce the traffic through St Athan. The site location is such that the extra 500 vehicles or so will utilise the country lanes to gain access to the Cardiff area adding to what is already a vastly over used rat run. The road infra-structure is already over-loaded with the A48 and other main roads now long traffic jams in the mornings and evenings. The rural Vale is now becoming more and more urbanised and developments of this type and scale should be resisted.
