The installation would be right on the edge of the woodland which are particular rich environments with regard to biodiversity, specifically insects. Neighbours have regularly have observed bats foraging and any negative effect on the supply of insects could adversely affect the local bat population (Balmori 2009)n. The effects of mobile phone masts on bats are unclear and considering how close the installation would be to Porthkerry Country Park , the potential risk to the local bat population is unjustified.
Although care has been taken to obscure the installation between trees, the mast will be considerably higher than the surrounding vegetation. It will also be in a very prominent position on the cliff edge. It is an area were people enjoy walking and it is close to the Wales Coastal Path and the installation would impact on the enjoyment of the nature in the area.
